Startup Leadership Program

The Startup Leadership Program (SLP) is a highly selective, 60+ hour, 6-month, world-class training program and lifetime network for outstanding founders and innovators. Grant established the Melbourne chapter of SLP in 2012 for the 2012-13 semester and ran 8 annual cohorts supporting more than 90 founders in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Wellington.

Even though the Melbourne chapter is no longer taking new cohorts, InnovAction and SLP are always looking to collaborate within and across startup communities. Within East Asia there are current SLP chapters in Tokyo, Taipei and Shanghai and there have been chapters in Beijing, Hong Kong and Singapore. Grant has spent time in each of these cities building entrepreneurial relationships.

In Melbourne and Sydney, SLP has been hosted at York Butter Factory, inspire9, Fishburners, Queens Collective/ Collective Campus, the Cluster, WeWork, the Victorian Innovation Hub (Goods Shed) and at Worksmith ELLA.

SLP globally was founded in Boston in 2007 and operates on a city chapter structure across, Asia, Australia, Europe, and the United States.

Fellows from the program have founded more than 2,000 companies, raised more than $400 million, and include breakthrough and award-winning startups like CareMonkey, Breeze Docs, Savored, TomNod, Ixigo, NatureBox, SideTour, Micello, Momelan, Novira, Runkeeper, Sensobi, Shareaholic, Solar Junction, Voicetap and Ubersense

Hany Pham, the CEO at Breeze Docs (initially One Touch) said this about the 2012-13 program in which he participated:

“The SLP is a highly valuable program for startups whether you are at concept stage or much further progressed. For me in particular, I wanted to learn how to raise capital for my startup, outside of all of the resources that you normally find on the Internet. The program had a wealth of resources, including sample annotated term sheets and the classes on capital raising were a significant factor in our ability to successfully raise our seed round from local angel investors. When dealing with investors, it’s important that you are able to speak the same language as them, and despite having a legal background, everything from the documents, terminology and indeed the actual process were quite foreign to me as OneTouch is my first startup. There’s a lot more to the program than just capital raising too, not to mention the global network of startups who are part of the SLP who are all free and willing to help out when needed. It was easily one of the best investments I have made into my business.”
